If I was Carlos Castaneda, I would bait my hook with impossible fishes, and throw the line into a little stream. Then I would let out lots of line, miles and miles of it. And I would let it sit for a very long time, long enough for men to grow old, and their hair turn gray and their bellies grow fat. Long enough for a young girls beauty to fade into wrinkles and desperate makeup. I would twitch the line every year or so and make my impossible fish jump and turn in the light. And then twenty or thirty years later, I would reel in these carp, these buffalo, these suckers. I would suck out their guts and throw their bodies on the shore. Then I would fart and laugh and disappear.
